Welcome to
the new EMERGE Substack.
This article is a transitional post pointing toward the new location of work from the Emerge Institute (read the announcement
here) and the ongoing project that has been this website. We are co-posting, with a few tweaks, this article as the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next.
What we have been doing is to act as an online, international, community-publishing arm of The Emerge Institute oriented toward the preposterous task of being
the front page of the liminal web. Our ongoing mission is to serve the overlapping developmental, transformational and regenerative communities through the cultivation of a shared ethos.
Combining notes from the field with hosting and promoting multiple authors from around the world, we create a circulating awareness of pertinent projects, personalities, philosophies, terminology, self-critique, multiple perspectives & highlighted events. Cultivating this common cultural base supports the interweaving networks of people who stand in solidarity before the deep Metacrisis or Polycrisis of our epoch.
We believe this work is essential for the unfolding internal and external re/generation of a wise, healthy and humane planetary civilization. For the past five years we have been doing this through the whatisemerging.com website -- but today that all changes.
Welcome to the migration.
Our old website has done great work, but it was also finicky, clunky and difficult to modify. We
will retain it for now, along with all those incredible articles from dozens of significant contributors, but we are excited for the streamlined and accessible operations of Substack.
This is now the place to stay updated on things as diverse as how the Inner Development Goals are doing in Africa, how Ukrainian Metamodernists are faring, ecological models of consciousness, the meaning of Moloch, the progress of our intentional communities, and who’s who in the struggle between new coherence & cultural fragmentation, and much more.
The original slogan of the Emerge Podcast was:
Making Sense of What’s Next. This Substack is the next iteration of the spirit of that mission. Now with a strong focus on ecology, digital technology, indigenous futurism, multidimensional humanism, metacognition, the resonant entwining of new communities, and the overall vitality of the emerging scene in a time when the geopolitical, socioeconomic and technological order of the world is being radically reorganized.
Our first move in this new format will be a retrospective of 20 classic (slightly revamped and annotated) and still highly relevant Emerge articles. These are favorites curated by our editorial team and close allies. The migration of these essays (and a few of the classic podcasts), along with fresh context and commentary, provides the living bridge between old & new.
So, get ready for a little
Emerge Classic at the new home of
What is Emerging?
After that, it’s up to all of us.
Let’s emerge further. Together.
